Photography Project for the Bedford MS Therapy Centre
This summer I was privileged to be commissioned to take a set of photographs for the Bedford MS Therapy Centre to use in their marketing collateral.
There was no hesitation in my response. MS, or Multiple Sclerosis, has touched the lives of some very dear friends over many years, so I welcomed the chance to get involved.
The Centre provides professional specialist therapies and support to people living with MS, their carers, friends and families, throughout their illness, in a friendly, self-help environment. In addition, the Centre has also recently begun providing services for people living with Parkinsons.
It took a number of planned visits to cover a range of the services provided at the Centre, the result being a bank of images that can be used online via the Centre's website and social media channels as well as for news, mailings and in print, with aim of attracting new users, funds, volunteers and support.
Montage of photos from the Bedford MS Therapy Centre, including the hydrothreapy pool, oxygen treatment, volunteers helping with fundraising, members chatting over a coffee, members enjoying exercising with gym equipment, balance and coordination exercises.
The more time I spent at the Centre, the greater the respect and understanding I gained for the MS and Parkinsons and those living with the conditions. It has been, and continues to be, a pleasure to meet the service users, volunteers and staff.
Listening to the stories of the people I have photographed, I have been moved by their honesty, resilience and cheerfulness. And I've seen something quite amazing in the community and friendships that exist here. I hope that this is clear from the photos I have provided to the Centre.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. As a photographer and visual story teller, my job is to listen, watch and portray a message or emotion through my images. I came to the Centre with a purpose to help in my own way. But I came away having experiences so much more. Hope, courage, tears, laughter, trust. I have been welcomed and inspired.
I'd encourage you to find out more about the services and support on offer, and how you might be able to help with fundraising activities and events. Pop on over to their website www.mscentrebedsandnorthants.com/ today.
